Matt Sipos

A House of My Own

This chapter is a very short simple chapter. It simply describes the house that Esperanza wants to have. One that is all her own with no one else to make a mess or make her angry. She wants aporch and pillow and flowers. All her own books and her own stories just a house to herself.

Figurative Langauge:"Only a housequiet as snow, a space for myself to go, clean as paper before the poem", simile(pg108)

Question: Refering to her house a clean piece of paper before the poem may forshadow what for Esperanza's life?

This could mean that it's a clean piece of paper that she can wirte what she wants. Meaning with her new house she can make new memories and have a new life.

THat she has the ability to write how her story still. Despite all the suffering she has endured, she is still in control of her life story and how where and what it will lead her to do.

I think Espronanza wants to get away from mango street and move to a house all to her self. This "chapter" may say that she will move and start over.

Esperanza's theoretical paper now, is filled with events that are good and bad. She wants to trade hers in for a new piece, a piece that only she controls and decides what type of "poem" she will write.
